Great Smoky Mountains Residents | Ken Burns: The National Parks

The creation of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in the 1920s and 1930s enjoyed broad support from the citizens of North Carolina and Tennessee, who donated money to buy the land for it. But it also resulted in the removal of 5,500 people, who were forced to leave their homes located within the boundaries of the new park. Souce: Great Smoky Mountains National Park Archives.
