Setting up an Experiment with Crayfish

Teacher Tracy Polte asks her fifth-grade students for their ideas on how to set up an experiment that tests the speed of a crayfish in this video segment from Teaching Middle School Life Science. Polte explains that having the students think about and discuss the experimental setup is more beneficial for them than her simply dictating the steps, because it gives them a greater sense of ownership of the experiment. She also explains that asking a question that is relatively easy to test is a good way to approach inquiry questions for students at this age.
