The people of Ireland have historically migrated from their homeland during times of economic hardship. In the early 1990s, the economy experienced a period of unprecedented growth, an era known as the Celtic Tiger, and the trend of migrants leaving Ireland was reversed. Some migrants have returned and the rate of immigrants coming to the isle has doubled.
