Standards as a Common Language for Training and Practice

Much research has informed the creation of leadership standards. The developed standards such as ISLLC and regionally developed systems provide a common language for educators to engage in learning conversations around effective leadership practices. These ongoing learning conversations develop understanding and “buy-in.” These standards, in turn, coupled with student achievement measures, form the basis for evaluation. Quality principals develop competencies around these standards while demonstrating the personal and interpersonal qualities that enable them to be successful leaders.
