In this brief video, a biologist talks about the macroinvertebrates (typically aquatic insects) that form the basis of food webs in healthy streams. In Kentucky, these macroinvertebrates include mayflies, stoneflies, and caddis flies, all of which lay eggs and spend the early stages of their development in the water. Macroinvertebrates provide food for minnows and other small fish, which in turn become food for larger fish.
