        A Service in Old Cripplegate Church

        English School. Medium: oil on canvas. Date: 18th Century. Previously thought to be John Wesley preaching in Old Cripplegate Church; John Wesley (1703-91) Church of England clergyman and founder of Methodism; Samuel Johnson, James Boswell and Oliver Goldsmith have been identified sitting in the far back right pew, with Johnson wearing pale blue, there is no basis to any of these identifications; the painting has been attributed to Francis Hayman Provenance: Private Collection.
