        Satirical print in form of a 'Wanted Poster' for Prince Charles Edward Stuart, 1745

        Cooper, Richard, the Elder (c.1696-1764); British. Medium: coloured engraving. Date: 1745. Prince Charles Edward Stuart (1720-88) known as 'Bonnie Prince Charlie' or 'the Young Pretender' landed in Scotland in 1745 and invaded England to claim the throne; this print portrays him in an elaborate tartan costume, dropping a manifesto and offering a reward for his capture; the likeness is imaginary and so was made before the capture of Edinburgh in September; Provenance: Private Collection.
