D�rer or Duerer, Albrecht (1471-1528). Medium: oil on panel. Date: 1506. Known in France as 'La Vierge de la F?te du Rosaire (Virgin of the Feast of the Rosary); commissioned in Venice by the German merchants of the Fondaco dei Tedeschi for their chapel in the Church of San Bartolomeo as a depiction of the 'Brotherhood of the Rosary'; in the centre is the Virgin Mary with the Christ child; on the left is the kneeling figure of Pope Sixtus IV; on the right is the German emperor designate, Maximilian I (1459-1519); his imperial crown is on the ground beside him while the Madonna gives him a crown of roses; to the left of the Virgin is Saint Dominic and D�rer has included a self portrait of himself with long blond hair in a fur coat standing in front of the tree to the right of the viewer; painting was taken to Prague in 1606 by Emperor Rudolph II and is now displayed in Prague at the Sternberg palace; Provenance: Narodni Galerie, Prague, Czech Republic / Giraudon.
