Painted for the chapel of the Confraternity of the Black Penitents, whose mission was to ensure a dignified burial for the dead. The Virgin is shown protecting the religious and secular world, between Saint Cosmas and Saint Damian, Saint Sebastian and Saint Gregory. Above the Virgin is Christ of Pity between Saint Stephen and Saint Lawrence, Saint Valentine and Saint Petronille.
