        Braquehais, Bruno (1823-75); French. Medium: black and white photograph. Date: 1871. Federes au pied de la colonne Vendome; Commune of Paris, insurrection of Paris from 18th March to 28th May 1871; Communards led by Gustave Courbet tore down the column; during 1873-74 the column was reestablished; column in the style of Trajan's Column in Rome, built in 1806-10, stone core encased in the bronze of 1250 cannons captured at the Battle of Austerlitz; Provenance: Musee de la Ville de Paris, Musee Carnavalet, Paris, France / Giraudon.
