This was a civil war between grandsons of Genghis Khan (c.1162-1227); Berke Khan (d.1266) had converted to the Muslim faith and wished to punish his 1st cousin, Hulagu Khan (c.1217-65) for his destruction of Baghdad in 1258; first open war between Mongols; Provenance: Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris, France.
