        The Reveillon Riot of April, 1789

        French School, (18th century); French. Medium: coloured engraving. Date: 18th Century. A rumour that a wallpaper manufacturer named Reveillon had advocated a reduction in wages started a riot in which a mob burnt down and pillaged his house; the riot was violently repressed; Provenance: Musee de la Ville de Paris, Musee Carnavalet, Paris, France / Giraudon.
