Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) was briefly imprisoned for 10 days from 9th to 20th August, 1794, after the fall from power of the Jacobins and his friends the Robespierre brothers; during his captivity he is supposed to have finalised his plans for the invasion of Italy; Provenance: Bibliotheque Thiers, Paris, France / Giraudon.
