Before the French revolution the painting was in the church at Villeneuve-les-Avignon; to the left of the Madonna is an unknown donor in the clerical dress of a canon, then John the Evangelist; to the right is Saint Madeleine; Provenance: Louvre, Paris, France / Giraudon.
