13th century manuscript of a poem by Muhammad ibn Abd-al-Malik ibn Quzman (1078-1160) in the Syrian style, ink on paper. Muhammad ibn Abd-al-Malik ibn Quzman (1078-1160), a Hispano-Arabic poet and writer, was one of the most important Cordoban poets of al Andalus. Ibn Quzman died in Cordoba during the reign of the Almoravids, but seemingly spent most of his time in Seville. These verses allude to the power of memory and recollection and were included in a collection of poetry discovered in St. Petersburg in 1881.
