        Persian School, (15th century); Persian. Medium: gouache and ink on paper. Date: 15th Century. Hafiz Abru (d.1430); celebrated Persian historian; served at the court of Timur (1336-1405) and of his son, Shah Rukh (1405-47), who commissioned the 'Universal History'; history of world from the beginning until the reign of Shahrukh; intended to legitimise the Timurid dynasty by giving to it a sound historical pedigree; final part of the Majma' al Tavarikh was dedicated to prince Baysunqur (d.1433), Shahrukh's son; Provenance: Private Collection / Giraudon.
