Stories written out in manuscript by L'Enfant, a page in the Petite Ecurie du Roi, as a gift for Louis XIV's eldest legitimised illegitimate son, Louis-Auguste de Bourbon (1670-1736) duc du Maine; Fables d'Esope; the coat of arms on the left page shows the fleur de lis of France with the baton sinister traditionally associated with the heraldic arms of a bastard; armoiries de France au baton peri en barre de gueules; Provenance: Musee de l'Ile de France, Sceaux, France.
