        Louis, Victor (1731-1800); French. Medium: pen, ink and watercolour. Date: 18th Century. Louis-Nicolas Louis, called Victor Louis (1731-1800); celebrated French architect; commissioned in 1787 by Marquis Jean Frederic de la Tour du Pin Gouvernet (1727-94) to build a chateau suitable to receive a visit from King Louis XVI (1754-93); outbreak of French Revolution in 1789 caused the construction to stop; Provenance: Private Collection / Giraudon.
