Robert de Bethune was abbot of the Cistercian monastery of Clairmarais 1257-66; Richard de Saint Laurent (d.c.1250) wrote a book in praise of the Virgin Mary, portrayed here as Queen of Heaven and holding the infant Jesus in her arms; hand of God depicted in blessing the gift; Provenance: Bibliotheque Municipale, Saint-Omer, France / Giraudon.
