        Gerard, Francois Pascal Simon, Baron (1770-1837); French. Medium: oil on panel. Date: 18th Century. Sent to liberate Ireland in December 1796; The invasion was the plan of General Lazare Hoche, who had devised a three-pronged attack on Britain in support of Irish Republicans under Wolfe Tone.
