        Napoleon extricating Lannes' Artillery before the Battle of Iena

        English School, (19th century). Medium: engraving. Date: 19th Century. Battle of Iena, on 14th October 1806, was a victory of the French army led by Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) over the Prussians led by General Hohenlohe (1746-1818); the French army included the 5th Corps under the command of Lannes; according to legend, Napoleon directed himself the clearing and enlarging of a path used by goats; this enabled the troops to move the artillery to an advantageous position; Jean Lannes (1769-1809) was one of Napoleon's most successful Generals and Marshals; Provenance: Private Collection.
