Charles II (1630-85); building originally built as a tennis court and converted to a theatre by Sir William Davenant (1606-68) in 1661; first theatre to have moveable scenery; stage set for the play 'Empress of Morocco' by Elkanah Settle (1648-73); Provenance: Private Collection.
