George Frederick Handel (1685-1759), German composer, conductor and musician; 'Majora Canamus' translates as 'Let us Sing of Great Things'; quote reads 'And without controversy, great is the mystery of Godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, justified by the spirit, seen of Angels, preached among the gentiles, believed on in the world, received up in glory. In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge'; Messiah written in 1741; premiered in Dublin 13th April 1742; Provenance: Private Collection.
