The Halsgerichtsordnung of Bamberg, drawn up by Johann Freiherr von Schwarzenburg in 1507, was the basis for the first German Penal Code agreed in 1530 at the Diet of Augsburg under Emperor Charles V and ratified in 1532 by the Diet of Regensburg; included the rights of Blood Courts (Blutgericht) to impose punishments and the death penalty; Constitutio Criminalis Carolina; Provenance: Private Collection.
