        Oscar Slater, c.1908

        English Photographer, (20th century). Medium: black and white photograph. Date: 20th Century. Oscar Slater (d.1948) was wrongly accused of the murder of Marion Gilchrist and sentenced to life in prison; Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote about the case, entitling it 'The Case of Oscar Slater'; Conan Doyle thought he was innocent and campaigned for his release, finally successful in 1927; Provenance: Private Collection.
