        New Gallows built for public executions in 1785 at the Old Bailey

        English School, (18th century). Medium: engraving. Date: 18th Century. After 1783 public execution was moved from Tyburn to Old Bailey, the street outside Newgate prison; new gallows were built with two parallel beams from which a maximum of 12 human beings could be hanged at the same time; Provenance: Private Collection.
