Image refers to the Crawford Scandal, where Dilke was accused of having an affair with Virginia Crawford; at the end of her divorce proceedings Virginia was found guilty of adultery with Dilke, but he was not found guilty of adultery with Virginia; Sir Charles Dilke, 2nd Baronet (1843-1911) English politician, Member of Parliament; 'marvellous delusion disappearing lady'; Provenance: Private Collection.
