James Boswell (1740-95), author of 'The Life of Samuel Johnson', is confronted with the ghost of Dr. Samuel Johnson (1709-84) the famous lexicographer; 'Thou art a Retailer of Phrases, And dost deal in Remnants of Remnants, Like a Maker of Pincushions'; Boswell appears to be working on a patchwork of Johnson's life; Provenance: Private Collection.
