        York Meeting, The Celebrated Race between Mr. Thornton's 'Vingarillo' and Mr. Flint's 'Thornville', August 25th 1804

        English School, (19th century). Medium: etching. Date: 19th Century. Alicia Meynell (b.1782), who was the mistress of Colonal Thomas Thornton, rode the Colonel's horse 'Vingarillo' against Captain William Flint on 'Thornville' in a 4 mile race; she is considered the first female jockey; Provenance: Private Collection.
