Sarah Malcolm (1711-33) executed for the murder of a wealthy old lady and her servants at the chambers in the Inns of Court; image shows her in Newgate Prison with a clergyman holding up a wedding ring behind her, possibly a metaphor for the deep religious faith she developed before her execution, she became 'married to God'; her execution is shown through the window behind her; 'No recompence but love'; Provenance: Private Collection.
