A bear represents Charles Churchill (1731-64) English poet and satirist; he wrote satirical 'Epistle to William Hogarth' published 1763; this is Hogarth's response based on his earlier self portrait (140280 and 189057); the dog is shown urinating on a copy of 'Epistle to William Hogarth'; Provenance: Private Collection.
