        Charing Cross Hotel

        English Photographer, (19th century). Medium: black and white photograph. Date: 19th Century. Opened in 1865 and designed by Edward Middleton Barry the Charing Cross Hotel provided an ornate French Renaissance-style frontage to Charing Cross Railway station; In the forecourt stands the Victorian version of an earlier Eleanor Cross (after which Charing Cross was named) that was commissioned by the South Eastern Railway Company for the hotel; Provenance: Private Collection.
