        A letter from Thomas Henry Huxley to Charles Darwin, with a sketch of Darwin as a bishop or saint, July 20th, 1868

        Huxley, Thomas Henry (1825-95); British. Medium: pen and ink on paper. Date: 1868. The letter asks if Darwin (1809-82) would be willing to meet Wilhelm Friedrich Kuhne (1837-1900) a German physiologist; Huxley says that Kuhne wishes to pay 'his devotions at the Shrine of Dr. Darwin', but he warns that though Darwin as a great Saint is 'always kind to worshippers is not always in a condition to be worshipped'; Provenance: Private Collection.
