        Playbill for Her Majesty's Theatre, Italian Opera House, 1845

        English School, (19th century). Medium: printed paper. Date: 1845. Still exisiting in Haymarket, City of Westminster, London, this theatre is now known as only Her Majesty's Theatre; The first opera that is announced is Anna Bolena, an opera in two acts written by the Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti (1797-1848) and that was first performed in Milan in 1830; The ballet, 'La Esmeralda' which is billed as following the opera, was inspired by 'Notre Dame de Paris' by Victor Hugo (1802-1885) and was choreographed by Jules Perrot (1810-1892) to music written by Cesare Pugni (1802-1870); The Prima Ballerina was to be Carlotta Grisi (1819-1899), an Italian ballerina; Provenance: Private Collection.
