This print is an illustration of a text written by the Tory propagandist Sir Roger L'Estrange and is a satire of all the various denominations of the earlier Commonwealth era; The overall message of the image is to imply that the Puritan faction is plotting to seize Parliament which would lead to a second Civil War; The image shows a committee of the different denominations listening to petitions from a horse, a dog and a monkey; Meanwhile victims of the civil war stand chained in the bottom left hand corner and a Church of England vicar is forced to vomit forth his living to the bottom right; Provenance: Private Collection.
