        Picture Gallery at Belvedere, Vienna, published in 'Wondrous war and victory encampment of the supreme hero of our age Eugene Francis Duke of Savoy and Piedmont', c.1731-1740

        Kleiner, Salomon (1700/03-61). Medium: engraving. Date: 18th Century. Prince Eugene of Savoy (1663-1736) built the baroque Belvedere Palace complex between 1712-23 designed by the architect Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt (1668-1745); The Prince was an avid art collector and had a large collection of Italian Renaissance paintings; 'David with the Head of Goliath' by Guido Reni, which now hangs in the Louvre, can be seen on the right of the image; Kleiner, then an engineer from the Mainz elector's court, produce a ten-part publication that documented in precise detail the state of the Belvedere complex; Provenance: Private Collection.
