English School, (19th century). Medium: engraving. Date: 19th Century. The People's Palace was an educational establishment that was built on the Mile End Road as a result of a legacy left by John Thomas Barber Beaumont (1774-1841) for the creation of a home of education in East London; The People's Palace, designed by the architect Edward Robert Robson (1836-1917) was opened by Queen Victoria in 1887; The building was destroyed by fire in 1931 but even though the building was rebuilt its role as People's Palace was short-lived as after the WWII it became part of part of Queen Mary College; Provenance: Private Collection.
