Part of a series of five blocks depicting a procession of the King of Cochin with natives of Africa, Arabia and India; This is an early copy of Burgkmair's 1508 woodcut of the King of Cochin that was an illustration of a report made by Balthasar Springer following the first voyage made by German merchants to Africa, Arabia and the East Indies; In this image King Cochin is seen on the palaquin on the left and behind the musicians who are leading the procession; Cochin, now Kochi, is a major port city of the west coast of India, in the district of Kerala; Provenance: Private Collection.
