Hugh ?g MacMahon was one of the Catholic leaders of the Irish Rebellion of 1641 in which the Irish Catholic gentry were planning a coup d'etat by using suprise to seize Dublin Castle. Owen O'Connolly, a protestant informer, foiled the plot and MacMahon and another leader, Conor Maguire, were arrested. Provenance: Private Collection.
