        Yarrell, William (1784-1856). English. Medium: woodcut. Date: 1843. Ptarmigan (latin 'lagopus muta') is a small game bird from the same family as the red grouse. It is found in Britain only in the highest parts of the Scottish Highlands. Ptarmigan's plummage changes colour depending on the season; white in winter and speckled brown in summer. Provenance: Private Collection.
