        Overend, William Heysham (1851-98); British. Medium: engraving. Date: 1879. The foundation of the fourth lighthouse to be built on the Eddystone rocks, 14 miles off the coast of Plymouth, Devon. The Prince of Wales (the future King Edward VII) (1841-1920) and Duke of Edinburgh (1844-1900) were the eldest two sons of Queen Victoria. This incarnation of the lighthouse was designed by Sir James Nicholas Douglass (1826-1898) and was first lit in 1882. Provenance: Private Collection. Photographic Rights The Bridgeman Art Library.
