        Flaxman, John (1755-1826). English. Medium: engraving. Date: 1795. Play written by Aeschylus in 467 BC, concerning the battle between the Argive army led by Polynices and the army of Thebes. The image shows the seven (l-r, Eteoclus, Polynices, Capaneus, Parthenopeus, Amphiaraus, Hippomedon and Tydeus) sacrificing a bull to the god of war, Ares. Provenance: Private Collection.
