English School, (18th century). Medium: engraving. Date: 1791. Legend has it that a pedlar was once given shelter in the porch of Saint Mary, Lambeth, and he promised that if he became rich that he would in turn help the church. This did indeed come about; the pedlar kept his word and has been immortalised in a window in the church since 1500. The window was destroyed during the second world war but another version was made to replace it. Provenance: Private Collection.
