        James Macleane the Gentleman Highwayman at the Bar, 1750

        English School, (18th century). Medium: engraving. Date: 1750. "Captain" James MacLaine (occasionally "Maclean", "MacLean", or "Maclane") (1724?50) was a notorious highwayman. He was eventually discovered and convicted and subsequently was hanged at Tyburn on 3 October 1750. Printed by T. Fox. Provenance: Private Collection.
