        Cruikshank, George (1792-1878). English. Medium: engraving. Date: 1839. Jack Sheppard (1702-24) was a notorious thief who repeatedly escaped from prison. William Harrison Ainsworth's (1805?82) novel 'Jack Sheppard' was based on his life. The images show, from top left; 'The Castle', 'The Red Room', 'Door of the Red Room' and 'Door between the Red Room and the Chapel'. Provenance: Private Collection.
