During the Flanders campaign of 1747, Prince William Augustus (1721-65) led the allies in an attack on Marshal Saxe (1696-1750) and the French forces at Val, near Maestricht, during the War of Austrian Succession (1740-48); Provenance: Yale Center for British Art, Paul Mellon Collection, USA.
