        The Capitrano Warrior

        Greek. Medium: terracotta. John of Capistrano (1386-1456), a Franciscan priest from Italy who was ordered in 1454 to preach a crusade against the invading Turks at the Diet of Frankfurt; he succeeded which earned him the moniker 'the Soldier Priest'; that statue was originally part of King Nevio Pompuledeio's funery 'stele'; Provenance: Museo Nazionale Archeologico d'Abruzzo, Italy.
