I'm Javier and I love skateboarding because it's endless fun.

Abby: Drake, what are we doing today?

We're skateboarding at the Callanan Skateboarding Club.

Abby: Why do you love to skateboard?

Because it's awesome and there's a lot of new things you can learn, it's not just one thing you do over and over.

Abby: So what are these contraptions that are built in the background?

Well, that's a ramp for just doing tricks on and off. That's a rail to do like your ollie and do grinds on it.

Abby: And where do they come from?

I'm working on my Eagle Scout so I had to do that for my Eagle Scout project so I built these.

Abby: Wait a minute, you built those?

Yeah.

I saw a class in a magazine and I signed up.

Abby: Now, you have some fancy gear up here. Tell me about that.

It's my helmet and my one wrist guard.

Abby: Why do you wear a helmet and a wrist guard?

They help keep you safe.

My name is Jack and I love rollerblading because there's a whole lot of tricks you can learn.

My name is Dane and I like to do skateboarding because I like to do tricks.

Abby: What is your favorite trick?

An ollie.

Abby: What's an ollie?

It's where you pop your tail up.

Abby: So like the board has names of its parts?

Yeah.

Abby: And the back part of it is the tail.

Yeah.

Abby: Well, you could be playing basketball or you could be going home to watch TV, so why is skateboarding such a great option for kids for after school?

Well, I didn't see basketball and football like that interesting and my uncle, he used to be a skateboarder. So this is what I do with my uncle, we hang out like this.

Abby: There might be kids that are interested in this. How do you start learning how to skateboard or rollerblade?

Well, the first thing you do is learn how to ride, which is a step that a lot of people skip. And once you're comfortable riding without falling off every two seconds, then you can go into the ollie, which is jumping in skateboarding.
