Announcer: One of our producers dug up this great story at the fair. Let’s check it out.

Narrator: Inside the the ag building an eighteen hundred pound horse sculpture is fascinating fair goers.

Steve Huffman, Artist Ottumwa, Iowa: It has personality. It has movement. Little details everywhere. You could come back in an hour or two and still find something that you hadn’t seen before.

It’s amazing.

Yeah.

I can’t believe, I mean. So many different tools, you know changed into art basically. It’s pretty amazing that it looks like a horse. All the different things that you can find in it. Old tools, new tools.

Narrator: This is Steve Huffman’s fifth creation for the Iowa State Fair. This year’s sculpture named the Young Prince is made from recycled scrap metal and tools. Huffman had to be pretty picky about the pieces he chose in order to get the sculpture to look just right.

Steve Huffman, Artist Ottumwa, Iowa: It takes longer to find the pieces than it does to put it together. And if the piece doesn’t fit don’t do it, just walk away from the sculpture. An artist would understand this, but the piece kinda talks to you.

Narrator: The Young Prince will be here in the ag building throughout the fair and as artists often due, Huffman is already dreaming about his next creation.

Steve Huffman, Artist Ottumwa, Iowa: What am I going to do next year? I’ve always got to top what I’m doing, never stop. Always progress to something bigger and better. To never let up.
