Abby: A theatre is where you go to be entertained. In every theatre there is a stage. Everyone who performs on stage is a member of the cast. The cast might sing or dance or deliver lines that could make you laugh or cry. They keep you entertained.

The cast gets a lot of help telling their story from the crew. Everyone that works backstage is a member of the crew. Like the stage manager, who tells people what to do during the performance, the set designer, carpenters and painters who create the sets, the control booth operators who manage the lights and sounds, the costumers who design and create everything the actors wear and so many more.

The audience sits in the part of the theater called the house.

Whether you're on stage, behind-the scenes or in the audience, the most important rule is that you must play along or use your imagination to really believe in what is happening on stage. When the cast, crew and audience comes together for a performance, the theatre becomes alive with excitement and energy.

[bell chime]

Oh, that’s our cue. When you hear that sound and the lights go down, it’s a message to everyone in the house that the cast and the crew are about to begin.
